How to Layer Skincare Products
The order you apply products in matters more than you think. Our simple rule: thinnest to thickest, with a few exceptions.

Layering is about giving each product the best chance to reach your skin. Watery products can't penetrate through heavy creams, so the golden rule is simple: thinnest to thickest.
The morning order
A reliable morning sequence:
- Cleanser
- Toner or essence
- Water-based serum (e.g. vitamin C)
- Eye cream
- Moisturiser
- Sunscreen — always last
The evening order
At night, swap sunscreen for your treatment and seal it in:
- Cleanser (double cleanse if needed)
- Toner
- Treatment serum (retinol, acids or niacinamide)
- Eye cream
- Moisturiser
- Face oil or sleeping mask (optional)
How long to wait between layers
You don't need to wait ten minutes between steps. Give each layer 30–60 seconds — just enough that it's no longer wet. The exception is sunscreen: let it set for two minutes before makeup.
