Retinol for Beginners: A Gentle Start
Curious about retinol but scared of flaking? How to introduce it slowly and get the results without the drama.

Retinol is one of the most researched ingredients for texture, fine lines and clearer pores. It's also one of the most misunderstood.
Start low and slow
Begin with a low concentration (0.1–0.3%) two or three nights a week. After two weeks without irritation, move to every other night, then nightly if your skin is happy.
The sandwich method
If your skin is sensitive, apply a thin layer of moisturiser, then retinol, then another layer of moisturiser. It buffers the intensity without cancelling the benefits.
What to expect
- Weeks 1–2: possible mild dryness or tightness
- Weeks 4–6: smoother texture, clearer pores
- Weeks 12+: softer fine lines and more even tone
“Retinol rewards patience. The people who see the best results are the ones who didn't rush.”
